Inspiring Postive Change!

Reality Check
Changing Lives’ new workbook is designed for use by middle and high school students.  Our “working title” has been, Character Matters, but the final workbook title is Reality Check.  The 5.5" x 8.5" format presents nine character qualities…one workbook each month.  The character themes in this series include: Respect, Honesty, Responsibility, Humility, Confidence, Humor, Integrity, Persistence and Patience.
Essential Learning Strategies…
Learning strategies and daily themes are developed with students in mind. Daily learning activities also engage students by incorporating high order thinking skills as well as four basic learning styles to maximize internalization.
  • Learning Strategies:  Ink It, Team Time, One On One, The Whole Crew, Make It Stick and more!
  • Daily Themes:  Get Wise, Daily Tale, Always…Never, Going Great, Size Up, Rock and a Hard Place, My 2 Cents, Think About It, The Buzz, Brain Drain, Deliver, Scout It Out, Taking Care of Business, Wise Up, Touch Base and more!
Design…
Reality Check is created to attract today’s students.  It offers the look and feel of a personal journal that is easy to use and carry.  The lessons are written in the teacher friendly tradition of Changing Lives, thus requiring minimal preparation and only 15 minutes per day of class time.  The format also offers flexibility for a variety of class schedule scenarios.

Availability…
The new set of student workbooks is available for the 2007-08 school year.  For more information or a sample, please contact the Changing Lives Customer Service Department: 1-866-593-4703 or changinglives@mark1.org.

Student Planners
Planners are available to add to your workbook orders.  The new format for 2007-08 is a 5.5" x 8.5" individual planner that supplements the regular character workbook.  Planners will no longer be incorporated into existing workbooks in order to offer greater flexibility in how they are used.  Order deadline is May 31, 2007.

Great Alliances
Changing Lives is working with two organizations regarding the potential of collaborative initiatives.  As we pursue ways to inspire positive change in schools and beyond, we are now working closely with Dr. David Walsh at the National Institute on Media and the Family.  In addition, we have been meeting regularly with The Search Institute regarding their research-based model of developmental assets: “Healthy Communities – Healthy Youth.”

We are in the early stages of identifying the opportunities for intentional collaboration.  To begin, we are including key resources from both organizations in our Legacy of Character Packages.  The packages are for schools that are ready to incorporate additional character education resources for the purpose of greater transformation in the learning environment of their school.  If you are interested in further information about these LOC packages, please contact us at your convenience:
1-866-593-4703 or changinglives@mark1.org.

Train the Trainer
Don’t forget to register your team for one of this summer’s “Train the Trainer” events at the Changing Lives Learning Center in Litchfield, Minnesota: July 11-12 or July 25-26.  Visit our web site for more details:  www.teachingtochangelives.com/seminars/ or call 1-866-593-4703.
We will introduce the new Reality Check student workbook series as well as the collaborative work with Dr. David Walsh and The Search Institute.

Time to Order
Let us know how we can help you finalize orders for the 2007-08 school year.  Workbooks and student planners are available along with many other resources to help make your character education initiative more effective!  The Proactive Grant Application can begin the process of approval for other funding sources that might supplement your school’s budget allocation for character education implementation:  www.mark1.org/ttcl/grants/new_grant.html.
